Expect something positively different.
Whether you are familiar with chiropractic care or this is your first time, you can expect your visit to The Joint to be new and different from any healthcare experience you’ve had before. Perhaps even life-changing.
For starters, you don’t need an appointment. You can walk in whenever we’re open and be seen by our licensed chiropractors whenever it’s convenient for you. Even evenings and weekends. You won’t need a referral or any insurance to receive care immediately either. You may experience a short wait before seeing your doctor, but wait times are minimal and usually just enough time to complete your initial paperwork. Your initial paperwork is to help our chiropractors get a better idea of your health history and current needs.
During your first visit, your chiropractor will explain how spinal misalignments (subluxations) occur, how chiropractic is used to correct them, and the many benefits chiropractic has to offer. If you’ve never been adjusted before, this is a great way to have some of your questions answered by a knowledgeable licensed doctor of chiropractor, so you know exactly what to expect. The doctor will then provide a consultation and answer questions or concerns you may have prior to your adjustment.
Your Consultation, Exam and Adjustment
After a full exam and consultation, you will be adjusted in an open bay area on a comfortably cushioned adjustment table. You will remain fully clothed for the duration of your visit, so we recommend you wear non-restrictive clothing to make it easier to rest comfortably while lying down on the table. A portion of your adjustment will be done while you are face down, while other adjustments may be made while you are either on your side, sitting upright or resting on your back.
While being adjusted you may hear a “popping” sound from your joints. Don’t be alarmed—it is merely the release of gasses between your joints, much like when you crack your knuckles, bend your knees or rotate your ankles. The spine is meant to bend and be pliable, so each adjustment will help place the vertebrae back into proper alignment to restore its proper function. Adjustments are safe, natural and effective.
Will I experience side effects?
Although chiropractic is a proven safe and effective treatment, you might experience side effects after your first visit that include headaches, fatigue and soreness. Side effects from chiropractic care typically are mild and disappear within 24 hours. Women are more likely to report side effects than men. Do drink plenty of water before and after each visit.
How long will my visit take?
You should plan around 20 minutes for your first visit, though follow-up visits can take as few as five minutes or so. At the end of your visit, your doctor will determine the best treatment plan for your specific needs. Some conditions may be resolved in one visit, although many people require and prefer routine chiropractic care to remain healthy and feel their best.
Our chiropractors treat patients solely through straight chiropractic adjustment. If, during the course of your exam, the doctor encounters issues which prevent him or her from providing care, or believes an x-ray or other imaging is required, he or she will recommend you seek care from the appropriate healthcare provider.
If you have specific questions, needs or concerns, you are always welcome to call The Joint nearest you and speak with one of our friendly staff members. Find a clinic near you.
